Determine skin type

Before you start looking for skin care products, it is important to determine your own skin type. The oil content and moisture of a cream are not suitable for every skin type. By the way: You can easily determine your skin type with our test.

Normal skin : Who wants to be normal these days? In terms of skin type, probably everyone. Because normal skin is uncomplicated to care for. It is characterized by a smooth surface that is neither too dry nor too oily. Read skin care routine for dry skin.

Combination skin : Combination skin poses a challenge to skin care because it does not contain a uniform skin texture. Often the forehead and cheeks are oily, while the eye area is dry. It is advisable to care for the affected areas with a cream that is suitable for them, rather than resorting to a uniform cream for combination skin.

Sensitive skin : This skin type is prone to unpleasant redness or irritation. Many skin care products are out of the question because the skin is very sensitive. Often it is a longer trial and error until you find the right face cream for you.

Facial care : differences in age

Skin care products are not only classified on the basis of skin type. Age can also play a decisive role. Young skin is elastic and requires less care. The moisture of the products is more important than their anti-aging effect. Older skin, on the other hand, needs more care and a deep-acting cream. Read skin care routine for 30s

Facial care : influence of the season

In summer, the focus is on facial care with sun protection, while in winter it is a matter of protecting the skin from drying out. Products that contain oil and moisturize are particularly suitable for this purpose. The use of a serum (see below) is also generally more important in winter than at other times of the year.

Spring and autumn represent a transition to summer and winter. Accordingly, you can slightly adjust aspects such as sun protection (spring) or oiliness (fall).

The right routine

The basis and starting point of facial care is face cleansing. If you wear makeup every day, you need to clean your face from residues, otherwise it can cause skin irritation. Especially in the case of eyelashes, there is even a risk of them breaking off due to remaining mascara. Skin cleansing in the evening is the most important part of this.

Depending on your skin type, you can adjust the facial cleansing with special products. For dry skin, we recommend a lotion or cleansing milk.

Facial toner should not contain alcohol, as this additionally dries out the skin. Baby oil is also suitable for cleansing dry skin. Normal soap for washing hands, on the other hand, is not designed for coating facial skin.

Which products do I need?

Day cream : With the day creamy you lay the foundation for the whole day. A good day cream provides our skin with the necessary moisture and maintains the skin's own protective film.

Night cream: After you have removed your make-up and cleansed your skin, a good

good night cream.

comes into play. It gives the skin the regeneration it needs overnight and moisturizes it. You want to use your day cream at night as well? Better not, because the night cream contains richer ingredients. In addition, day creams often contain UV protection, which you don't need at night.

Eye cream: The skin under the eyes is very thin and sensitive. Constant blinking puts additional strain on it. That is why there are special eye creams.

which care for the sensitive skin areas particularly well with their ingredients. In this way, wrinkles due to dryness can be avoided. The risk of crow's feet also decreases with a good eye cream.

Serum : Serums have enjoyed great popularity for several years. But what is actually behind it? In a serum, the ingredients of day or night creams are found in a very concentrated form. The product is therefore not intended for daily use, but in phases in which you are particularly stressed or your skin is suffering specifically. Depending on your needs you can use the Serum once or twice a week. It is only a supplement to the cream, which you then apply regularly.

Face mask : The mask is certainly one of the most popular beauty applications. It is recommended to better protect the skin from foreign influences. There are various masks that address every conceivable skin problem. It is important that you adapt the type of mask to your skin type.

For dry skin, moisturizing is important, while for oily skin, it's all about getting rid of the oily greasy film. Moisturizing masks can be used as often as you like (even daily), but cleansing masks should be used no more than two or three times a week to prevent the skin from drying out.

Exfoliation : Exfoliation is a process of "peeling" or "peeling". This is because peeling is about lightly removing the top layer of skin to make room for layers below. In this process, beauty products perform a superficial peel, while a medium-deep peel is performed by a beautician or even a doctor (deep peel). In order not to damage the skin, a superficial peeling should be performed only about once a week. For very oily and blemished skin, it can be increased to twice a week, and for extremely dry and sensitive skin, rather only once a month. The products contain so-called abrasives that resemble coarse grains (mechanical peeling). Alternatively, there is the enzyme peeling, which is suitable for impure and particularly sensitive skin.

Nutrition : "You are what you eat." This is definitely not the first time you've read this saying. Your lifestyle, including diet, has a huge impact on skin regeneration. A healthy sleep, the renunciation of tobacco and a balanced diet are already half the battle for your face. Getting enough exercise in your daily routine will also help prevent your skin from being exposed to unnecessary stress.

Regular cleansing : Facial cleansing is the basis for good facial care. Only when you have thoroughly cleaned your skin can it properly absorb the skin care products. But do not overdo it either. Cleansing in the morning and evening is absolutely sufficient.

Face care : The 3 biggest mistakes

A lot helps a lot : Facial cleansing and skin care routine should not be subject to the use of too much cream and make-up. The term "stewardess disease" has become established for this skin care mistake. If we use too many products and also too large quantities, impure skin can be the consequence and we achieve the undesirable opposite. Make sure to give your skin a day off from make-up, day cream and co.

Focus on the face : Many women concentrate primarily on the face when it comes to skin care. Areas such as the neck or décolleté are quickly forgotten. But this can take its toll with increasing age. The result: a young face and a wrinkled, dry neck. The skin is very dry and thin, especially in this area, and needs a lot of care.

Wrong and changing products: We have already gone into detail about the importance of your skin type for the selection of makeup and co. in this article. Women who still have rather impure and oily skin in their 30s can do even more damage to the skin with too much care. At the same time, if you have dry skin, it's important to incorporate enough moisture into your skincare routine.
